Hey. I just got this email from Dr. Bob, who asked me to post it here for him:

BENEFIT FOR DON MELVIN

This Sunday, April 29, there will be a benefit, to assist with medical
expenses for long time local musician, Don Melvin.
It all takes place at the VFW on Dedeaux Rd. in Gulfport from noon till 7pm.
There will be auctions, raffles , food and live music.

Bands will include:
APPLE CORPS
BLUE BLAZES
STEVE WARREN BAND
NIGHTFALL
GARY GENO &FRIENDS
MAGNOLIA CREEK
THE JIM PINKSTON ALLSTAR REVUE
AND OTHER SPECIAL GUEST.....

FUN FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY! THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 29, AT THE VFW ON
DEDEAUX RD. IN GPT FROM NOON TILL 7PM.

Honestly, I'm not sure. Bob sent me the email last night and asked me to post it here. I'll ask him for more details today, but he doesn't get to the staton until the evening, so I probably won't know anything until after 7pm.

Thanks, Yea I played in a band with Don, way back when I first started playing.
Great guy, I remember we used to practice above his plumming store in Biloxi.

Okay. This is what I got from Bob. Evidently, and Max can correct me if I'm wrong, Don Melvin has been a guitarist on the coast for many years....I venture to say blues, but don't quote me on that part.

Evidently he recently suffered a heart attack and then a major stroke that really really messed him up. Fritzi and Ray Hansen are putting on the benefit to raise money for his medical bills. He has no health insurance.

Anyone looking for further information would do best to ask around at Pinkston's.

Steve Warren is always impressive as hell. Anyone know if Mule is still playing bass with him?

I think I'll have to stop over for this.

Great minds think alike, Craig....although I was resisting the urge very well until you brought it up...the last time I saw Pinkston play bass was at The Sugar Mill about 5 years ago (??) I believe the most prominent tune was Brown Eyed Girl happenin...

I'm pretty sure Steve's minus a Mohon....I think he's using Regan again now.

And for all who haven't seen Steve Warren play...take the 1st opportunity you get to do that. It's an experience.
