Thank you, Alex, for being truthful here. One of the central points of my idea is that there is no local interest. No matter what we do, people around here are too busy to go catch local shows. They've got lives, kids, jobs... rock shows play only the smallest part in their lives, if any at all. It's time we all wake up and see the truth, and that truth is that no one here is listening. No one will be listening. CPR is playing classic rock. Why? Because the demographic has changed. What do you think caused that? And what bearing does that have on our local scene? Ask yourself these questions.

Rep Power: 44 ![]() | and I'm sure you guys are aware of the reality of the big picture- that in all these other cities/regions, there is a thread on their local music messageboard just like this one. Well, perhaps not so well-written as Ron's, but you know what I mean. Everyone's trying to break out of their local scene because it's dead. Anytime I go to other boards to search for contacts or make friends, I run across similar sentiments. It's very frustrating |

Advertising to your friends and family is great and they might be able to bring a friend or two along. But once they buy all your shirts and cds, then what? I would say a band's focus (obviously besides trying to play the best musicaly as they can) is capture new fans! Get someone who has never been to your show before! And if you see faces you don't know, play the best you possibly can so this person will say, "Wow, they rock!" Rather then them try to talk louder to the girl they are trying to hook up wiht. |

And what's more, Alex, how many big events featuring local unsigned bands do you think people will be interested in? How long before they're like, 'Hey look, honey, another big festival featuring bands we couldn't give a rats ass about!' It's a dead end. Once again, no local support. But if we garnered some national interest... and that's not even considering the fact that when you tour there's no telling who you'll end up playing in front of. Save your advertising money. Let your record label pay for that after you get signed. Use that money for a tour! And I'm talking about touring over and over and over and over again.

And the thing is, as a musician you are too busy perfecting your music and your show...what you need is someone ELSE to do that for you. Touring is fine and good...But what about the bands that have kids and wives and full time job that they have to pay the rent with? In my OPINION stay home first, and advertise. AND THEN, you will make this place so intresting that bands that are touring will want to come HERE instead of ya'll go THERE! Besides, I'm not going to travel to New York City to see you play, Ron! :P | |

Rep Power: 44 ![]() | I can't even get you out to skeeters and you live a few feet away! As for bands with families, I can't presume to tell people what to do with their families. Everything I suggest in this thread is directed solely at musicians who are dedicated to music and consider it their primary career goal. Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree.
