Rep Power: 50 | | | No, I would not purchase music from MySpace. This comes from a person who has never purchased a download online. (Shh! Don't tell on me!) Yet even if I were to do so, I would prefer using iTunes. I do not regard MySpace as a reliable site whatsoever. Hell, I rarely get most of my messages on there... I had my account hijacked once... surely I'm not going to use my credit card number on there nor do I have confidence my download will go through.

Rep Power: 50 | | | As I've mentioned, none of the actual transacting takes place thru Myspace.
You are dealing with a store on the SnoCap provider, then that store is linked on your myspace page, or on any site you wish to post it.
It has little to do with Myspace other than the store will be linked there.
It's like iTunes. You can put a link to iTunes on your Myspace page. That doesn't mean your iTunes DLs are coming thru Myspace.
I guess I've done a poor job of describing the service.
I'll wait to see how it works out so I can post some actual experiences. |

I'm just an old school cheapskate when it comes to buying music downloads... I STILL buy CDs. I grew up listening to ALBUMS for hours while perusing every inch of the cover/sleeve so it's hard to let go of the need for the packaging, as well.

Rep Power: 50 | | | no problem, J~ didn't mean for the post to seem aimed at you.
I appreciate your input on the subject. I prefer CDs too, but over the past year or two we've been getting more and more inquiries for making DL's available; apparently there are some folks out there who do NOT want to be bothered with CDs anymore and do all of their music listening thru iPods or something similar. go figure...
I don't want to sound like a commercial for the new service, just curious what impact it's going to have.
Here's the message we got on Myspace concerning it,
did noone else get one of these?
message from 'TOM':
It’s really simple. Just click the “Create Your MySpace Music Store” link on your Home page to register with SNOCAP (or click here), upload your music, and set your price. Your store will be automatically created on your MySpace profile right underneath the MySpace player, and a new “Manage Music Store” link will appear on your home page which lets you edit your songs or change the price. Once you’ve created your store your fans will be able to purchase your tracks right off your profile and even post your store on their own profiles, and you’ll get paid on a monthly basis. Click The Format
to check it out.
You don’t need to wait to have a CD’s worth of music to sell. Record something tonight and make it available immediately. Or upload a few tracks from the soundboard recording of your last show. A MySpace/SNOCAP MyStore puts the power of distribution in your hands. And best of all, it doesn’t limit any of your choices. You can still stream up to 4 tracks for free from the MySpace player on your page. You keep all the rights to your music. And this isn’t exclusive – you can put a MySpace/SNOCAP MyStore on your MySpace page and paste the store anywhere else on the web you use for promotion; plus you can also sell through an aggregator or any other digital retailer you have access to. |

Rep Power: 50 | | | No worries, it didn't cross my mind that it was aimed directly at me.
But now that I think about it, looking at it with a different perspective (since I am no longer "in the majority" as technology and youth pass me by), I can see how some would truly benefit from this... especially the musicians.
And just so you know, what I usually download/steal of the net is to help me rebuild the library I had lost in Katrina... old stuff, like Frank Zappa, for example. (Something I'm sure Frank wouldn't mind a bit.)

Rep Power: 50 | | | well, I guess I'll find out firsthand how this system works,
looks like our store came online just now. I was thinking it'd take a few days, but it took less than one...
now we'll see if it's worth the trouble. |
