Thoughts on the "scene" from a ten-year vet

For The Royal Attire, the show we have coming up Thursday the 14th at The Cell Block in Mobile will be our sixth show. Impressive, no? So far, just some thoughts on the "scene" here, which I've been playing in since I was 14(ten years ago): We've had three really good shows and two mediocre shows along the Coast. Two of the good ones were in Mobile, playing at venues where the people who show up are mainly college students. The other good show, which actually went great, was at the Gulport(Gufport) VFW. Some benefit show(sometimes it seems like that's the only kind of show they do around here). Despite the thoughts of the moderator who posted on the thread for that show before it happened and said Alex's recordings sounded "retarded," (thanks for the support!)I believe we won over quite a few folks that night. We are actually a four-piece band who interpret the recordings that Alex does mostly by himself with less than stellar equipment. The point being, it's really more about the idea of the music, the melodies, the lyrics, you know, all that good stuff. Most people "get it" and have a good laugh, good time, whatever your thing is baby. Alex has given, geeze I'm not sure, well, a whole bunch of CDs away and we're always getting kind words from the cool cats out there. For what it's worth, which is probably not much, we've had over 10,000 plays on the fancy Myspace page after being there for only a short while. On December 23rd at the Cell Block, we'll be recorded through the soundboard and we'll probably post those tunes somewhere so people will have a better idea of the live sound. We're not about paying thousands of dollars to record a seven track demo for labels. We're just not hip to that scene. Dig it? We'll leave that route for some other hep cats. The mediocre shows you ask? Well, sometimes it's best to live and learn. You gotta pay them dues ya know? But hey, thanks to the Celtic, the Picklefish, the VFW people, the Krewe and all yous knuckleheads that are gettin' tired of that ol' danged Stephen King. Thanks for coming out to see us and leaving friendly messages that are sometimes a little scary.

huh?

I've been playing around here for right at 10 years. and after 5 bands, and after a hundred shows, give or take, i've learned that what you posted doesn't get you anywhere. unless thats where you want to go. the shows I've been apart of have been anywhere between 2 people and 400. not the greatest. but fun for the most part. I've had recordings good and bad. I've been heckled, I've been cheered. I've made money(not that much), and I've lost money. My point is, especially in this business of art, I've learned from everything I've done. and I dont blame anyone, or any band, or any place for where I'm at but myself.
other than being really confused about your post, it sounds like you aren't into music for the right reasons. get that chip off your shoulder and go hiy the pavement. maybe when your 40, you can come on here and gripe about who said this or who does that. but your 24!!! live a little.

You gotta work hard and be professional. The opening post is like saying I enjoy cars, but without a motor, wheels, and most importantly a RADIO!

Now I need a blow job........
